Dossier of Registered and Unregistered Pesticides in the Nigerian Market
The widespread use of chemical pesticides presents significant risks to human health, biodiversity, and the economy, particularly where regulatory oversight, transparency, and precautionary measures are weak. The likelihood of harm is shaped by three key factors: exposure levels, product toxicity, and access to accurate information. The comprehensive dossier details registered, traded, and used pesticides in Nigeria. The dossier categorises pesticides, analyses their active ingredients, showcases potential effects on human health and biodiversity, highlights their local and international regulatory status, and presents recommendations to mitigate associated risks.
It offers participants the opportunity to discuss and develop their vision for Nigeria’s future.
Unequal by Design: An appraisal of Nigeria's patriarchal laws
The quest for gender equality and the elimination of discrimination against women in Nigeria has been a defining struggle of the country's democratic journey. This dossier provides a critical review of the laws and constitutional provisions that sustain gender-insensitive and discriminatory practices in Nigeria.
The Unequal by Design report highlights some provisions of Nigeria's laws that perpetuate, support, or institutionalize gender insensitive and discriminatory practices against women. It also provides a brief background to the struggle for the actualisation of women's rights in Nigeria, citing human rights instruments supporting the struggle, and the social and political realities of women that necessitate legislative intervention, and constitutional provisions requiring amendment. It finally makes some recommendations on enumerated policies and structural practices, and how progress can be achieved.
